Dr Malabika Mitra started her performance with enlightening the students on ‘Kathak’ and its origin. Exploring both the tandava and lasya aspects of Kathak through traditional compositions, the presentation commences with Vadasara Shivastotra – an invoation to Lord Shiva as the cosmic Dancer – the creator, the protector and the destroyer of the universe. This is followed by Surya Parikarma in which the dancers play the different rhythemic patterns through footwork and traditional 'bols' like tora, Primalu and parans set to different chhand of rhythmic patterns. Different stages of Lord Krishna’s life were shown through her dance performance.

Her rhythmic, graceful foot movements adorned with Ghungroos harmonized to the live music enthralled the audience. The emotionally charged and artful performance was enjoyed by all but the primary objective was to expose today's students to the beauty, grace and wisdom embodied in the age-old Indian Art forms and its heritage.
