Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management and Research (GHS-IMR), was back with its fourth National HR Summit ‘HumanOurce- 2017’, in association with The Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD) and The Indus Entrepreneurs Uttar Pradesh (Tie-Up) on September 9th, 2017 (Saturday). The aim of the summit since its inception in 2014 has been to stimulate a regular dialogue among professionals/academicians and business leaders for integrated and inclusive development of Human capital at national and regional level.
The focus of this fourth confluence was to provide a platform for sharing of best practices and evolve ideas on the summit theme- ‘Reinventing HRM’. A series of panel discussions, special lectures, presentations and open house discussions with experts and participants facilitated in achieving this objective.
The inaugural session began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the esteemed dignitaries. In his welcome speech, Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi, Director GHS-IMR, said, “The changing environment and the dynamism of the corporate demand us to Reinvent the function of HR. It is a strategic and an important decision.”
The summit chair, Dr. Monika Srivastava, in her inaugural address talked about the relevance of the summit theme in the present context and highlighted that the current demand from HR Professionals is to give tangible returns, measurable impact and add business value so that organisation can attain competitive advantage. Later, she briefed the audience about the proceedings of the day.
Then, the Chief Guest for the occasion, Mr. Mrinal Kanti Barman, executive director (P&A), Steel Authority of India Ltd. (Bhilai Plant), delivered a keynote address in which he talked about Women Empowerment.
The first panel discussion on the topic ‘New HR Tools and Techniques’ moderated by Col. Pankaj Dhingra, Ex-Chief HR Officer and comprising of panel experts Mr. Gaurav Bakliwal, Team HR, RSWM Ltd., Mr Ashutosh Kumar, VP (HR& IR) RSPL Group, Mr. Saud Usmani, DGM- HR, TATA Motors, Mr. Neeraj Wasan, Chief Technical Officer, Redquanta, Mumbai, and Mr. Amarjyot Singh Dhamija,Sr. General Manager Business Excellence, Prism Cement, kept the audience engaged. The discussion started with how Imagination makes the invisible visible, a typical challenge in HR field. The new generation is seeing digital applications opening new avenues and driving change in the HR domain. The Digital HR Tools and Techniques strengthens employee development by giving people the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their current roles, as well as helping them to grow and prepare for future roles and responsibilities. The discussion saw a keen participation from the audience.The practical examples from industry by experts brought richness and quality in deliberations.
The paper presentation session then scheduled was the unique highlight of this summit and brought people from industry and academia to put their perceptive on recent HR trends and on emerging challenges in HR analytics. Around twenty-nine papers were received and selected papers were presented.There were two parallel sessions of paper presentation. Session chairs for paper presentations were Mr. M.M Khan, President ISTD Lucknow Chapter, Mr. Neera Wasan, Chief Technical Officer, Redquanta, Mr. Shishir Jindal, Secretary ISTD Lucknow Chapter and Mr. Anurag Bajpai Asst. VP, Paarth Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. They contributed in summarizing & reflecting on the research inputs & insights provided by the paper presenters.
A Plenary session was conducted by Mr. Amit Tiwari, CEO, M.K Software, on the topic “HR Transformation Enabled Through Technology”.
The second panel discussion was done under the moderatorship of Prof. P C Mishra, Dean – Faculty of Arts, Lucknow University. The other panel experts present were Mr. Vivek Mishra, Head Marketing & Media, Parth Infrabuild Pvt. Ltd, Ms. Simran Mann, Manager HR, Redquanta Ltd., Ms Madhavi Golash, General Manager HR at Lohia Corp. and Dr. Monika Srivastava, Prof. GHS-IMR. The discussion was conducted on “Talent Management”, speaking about how organizations focus on coordinating and integrating recruitment, retention, employee development and performance management.
The guest of honour Mr. Bimal Roy, delivered a valedictory address in which he very beautifully inspired the students on Team Work, Communication and Leadership through a pictorial presentation.
The event saw the release of the book “ Reinventing HRM- The picture of tomorrow”. The book is published by Excel India Publishers with an ISBN number 978-93-86724-05-2 The editors of the book Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi & Dr. Monika Srivastava informed that there are twenty-six papers in the book and the book covers different areas of HR processes and practices.
This year the institute initiated the ‘HumanOurce young leader Award’ to recognise the HR professionals who have contributed in the field of Human Resources. The Award seeks to showcase models of HR practices that could be emulated by other organisations. Mr. Gaurav Bakliwal, Team HR, RSWM Ltd. was awarded the “HumanOurce Young Leader Award 2017” for his contributions towards HR and the Certificates were given to the paper presenters.
Mr. Devendra Jaiswal, Summit Co-Chair, HumanOurce-2017 concluded the day with a vote of thanks to all. He thanked the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour and Other experts with a special mention to the program anchors Vidisha and Arpita and overall student coordinators- Palak, Asha and Akshay for putting their relentless efforts. The stage was then set for the next HR Summit ‘HumanOurce-2018’ with announcement of its date as September 8th 2018 and theme to be ‘Employeeship’.
