Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management and Research (GHS-IMR), organized its fifth International HR Summit ‘HumanOurce- 2018’ on September 8th, 2018 (Saturday). The aim of the summit since its inception in 2014 is to have a regular dialogue among professionals/academicians and business leaders for integrated and inclusive development of Human capital at national and regional level.
The primary theme for this summit was “Employeeship: The New People Strategy”, with special focus on tactical areas such as, Employee Health and Happiness, Managing Millennial, Technology and Social Media, Diversity and Inclusion and Performance Management. Themes and subthemes were discussed through a series of Panel Discussions, Open House Discussion, Plenary Sessions and Paper Presentations.
The inaugural session began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the esteemed dignitaries. In his welcome speech, Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi, Director GHS-IMR, said, “Employeeship though reflects the softer aspect of organization can bring hard core results by creating a strong commitment to purpose for everybody in an organization’.
The summit chair, Dr. Monika Srivastava, in her inaugural address talked about the relevance of the summit theme in the present scenario and highlighted that establishment of a good employeeship leads to cultural transformation of an organization that supports continuous improvements. She also said that “HR function was more or less limited to hire or fire, but today, HR is responsible for a wide range of employee activities, most of which center around enabling, engaging, and empowering employees.” Later, she briefed the audience about the proceedings of the day.
Then, the Guest Honour at for the occasion, Dr. Biseshwar Acharya, President, Novel academy, Nepal, delivered a keynote address in which he said that, “People are the singular most important component society and the Managers of the human resource are to take best out of the people, taking out the best requires innovation and precise implementation coupled with empathy.” He also imparted his knowledge on how human beings can be groomed for better performance.
Mr. Neeraj Narang, Director, HCM, Oracle addressed the audience on ‘HR Technology’. He explained the evolution of Human Capital Management as “Employee first, Customer second. Shift from employee as a cost, to employee as a resource and then to employee as a talent, making people responsible for their own act”. He also spoke about how the human resource is joining hands with technology and is shifting towards automation.
The panel discussion on the topic ‘Managing Millennial’ moderated by Dr. Th. Prabha (Faculty, College of Business, University of Buraimi, Sultanate of Oman) and comprising of panel experts, Mr. Vishal Choudhary (HR Head, Bharti Airtel Ltd), Dr. Shad Ahmed (Faculty, Gaeddu College of Business Studies, Bhutan), Ms. Charu Chaturvedi (HR Head, Threads India), Mr. Vivek Mishra (Head Marketing & Media, Parthinfrabuild Pvt.Ltd.) and Mr. Sumit Jhingan (DGM HR at Superhouse Ltd.) kept the audience engaged. The discussion focused on collaboration, implementing flexible work schedules, providing opportunities for development and having clear metrics and objectives. The digital HR Tools and Techniques strengthens employee development by giving people the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their current roles, as well as helping them to grow and prepare for future roles and responsibilities. The discussion saw a keen participation from the audience.The practical examples from industry by experts brought richness and quality in deliberations.
The paper presentation session then scheduled post lunch was the highlight of this summit and brought people from industry and academia to put their perceptive on summit theme and sub themes. Around twenty-eight papers were received including three international papers from Ethiopia, Nepal and Bahrain. Seven selected papers were presented by the authors. Session chairs Dr. Bhupendra Kumar (Associate Professor, Debre Tabor University, Ethiopia) and Dr. Shad Ahmed (Faculty, Gaeddu College of Business Studies, Bhutan) contributed in summarizing & reflecting on the research inputs & insights provided by the paper presenters.
A Plenary session was conducted by Ms. Navreet Michelle Milton (GM, Public Sector, SBL), on the topic “Diversity and Inclusion”. She focused on the diversity in organizations with inclusion of all. Another plenary session was held by Col. Mukul Saxena (Motivational Speaker) who gave an excellent analysis of Employee Health and Happiness. The discussion was about how a healthy and happy employee increases productivity, efficiency and retention of the organization.
The event saw the release of the book “Employeeship- The New People Strategy”. The book is published by Excel India Publishers with an ISBN number 978-93-88237-05-5. The editors of the book Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi, Dr. Monika Srivastava and Dr. Hari Lal Bhaskar informed that there are thirteen papers in the book and the book covers different areas of HR processes and practices.
This year the institute had the following set of awards to recognise the HR professionals who have contributed in the field of Human Resources. The Award seeks to showcase models of HR practices that could be emulated by other organisations.
Mr. Praveen Mishra was awarded the “HumanOurce Young Leader Award 2018”
Ms. Charu Chaturvedi was awarded the “HumanOurce Alumni of the Year Award 2018”.
Mr. Arwind Kumar was awarded the “HumanOurce Academic Excellence Award 2018”.
Mr. Yogendra Nath Mann was awarded the “HumanOurce Veteran of the Year Award 2018”.
Ms. Neelima Saxena was awarded the “HumanOurce Visionary of the Year Award 2018”.
During the valedictory ceremony paper presenters were given certificates for their academic contribution. Mr. Devendra Jaiswal, Summit Co-Chair, HumanOurce-2018 concluded the day with a vote of thanks to all. He thanked the Chief Guest with a special mention to the program anchors Harkirat and Harshita and overall student coordinators for putting their relentless efforts. The stage was then set for the next HR Summit ‘HumanOurce-2019’ with announcement of its date as September 14th 2019 and theme to be ‘Innovation and Disruption in HR’.
