Keeping in mind the aim of creating awareness and empowering the students to decode the Annual Budget 2020-21 and analyze the impact of Budget on Indian Economy and industry, BUDGET Paricharcha 2020 was organized at GHS-IMR on February 18, 2020.
Inaugural session began with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by Mr. D.K. Srivastava, General Manager, RBI, Kanpur, CA Himanshu Kapoor, the Key note speakers of the first half session of the day, along with Director Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi, Dr. Shekhar Trivedi and Dr. Kunwar Milind Singh, the conveners of the program.
In his welcome speech Dr. Prof. Rakesh Premi commandeered the students to “Decode the Budget” so that they could read between the lines and decipher the winning strategies for the companies they will be joining.
The first Key note speaker of the day, Mr. D K Srivastava, sketched the government’s long-term planning for the different sectors. He laid special emphasis on reviving banking systems by recapitalization. His message was amply clear “a healthy banking system propagates its effects in Economy”.
The second key note speaker CA Himanshu Kapoor critically evaluated the budget, drawing out the dilemma faced by the Middle-class by introduction of the new Income-tax slabs versus the older tax rate with exemptions.
It was followed by a crispy panel discussion over the topic “Different Facets of India’s Annual Budget, 2020-21 and its impact on Indian Economy and Industry”. The experts for the panel discussion were CS Gopesh Sahu, Former-Chairman, Kanpur Chapter, The Institute of Company Secretaries of India; Mr. Rajesh Kumar, Deputy Director, MSME-DI, Kanpur; Shri Dharmendra Kumar Srivastava, GST expert and consultant; Mr. Vinay Rai, Director, Bliss Capital Management Pvt. Ltd.; Mr. K.C Shukla. AGM, Bank of Baroda, Kanpur and CA Himanshu Kapoor. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Vinay Rai, who also happens to be alumnus of GHSIMR. The sessions saw a volley of questions from the audience.
The post lunch session saw ten groups comprising of 30 students of GHSIMR presenting their views and analysis on the Budget 2020-21. Later the students- Soniya, Sakshi, Shubham, Tushar, Sushmita, Anshita and Deeksha, who represented 6 different sectors conducted a Panel Discussion titled “Stepping Stones For India to be a dollar 5 trillion economy by 2024”
The day’s proceeding came to an end by the summarization session by Dr. Kunwar Milind Singh, Associate Professor and Convener of the Program, where he not only summed up the discussion, views and analysis of the day, gave his own insight on Annual Budget 2020-21 and also applauded the efforts of the students.
Dr. Monika Srivastava gave the vote of thanks. The program was anchored by Shweta, Shreya and Shredha, and was witnessed by the students of other colleges, their parents, faculty of other colleges and students, staff and faculty of GHSIMR.
