On August 12, 2023, an Orientation Programme was held for the PGDM 2023-25 students at the Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management and Research (GHS-IMR). The purpose of this event was to familiarize the students with various aspects of the department, such as its activities, teaching methods, placement opportunities, and library resources. Additionally, the program aimed to highlight the significance and wide-ranging applications of management in both academic and industrial contexts.
The orientation program commenced with the traditional invocation of Saraswati Vandana, followed by the welcoming address delivered by Professor and Director of GHS-IMR, Dr. Rahul Goyal. Dr. Goyal extended a hearty welcome to all students, highlighting their forthcoming journey at the institute. He stressed the importance of progression, cooperation, and exploration, pledging steadfast backing for their academic pursuits. With great enthusiasm, he inaugurated a path to a metamorphic learning voyage, nurturing distinction and all-encompassing advancement. The event was graced by esteemed guests, with Mr. Abhishek Kapoor, Executive Director of Regency, serving as the Chief Guest, Mr. Sunil Vaish, Partner at Falcon Industry and former President of IIA-Kanpur Chapter, and Dr. Sarbani Bhatia, Vice President of Jagran Prakashan Kanpur, honored as the Guest of Honor. The occasion also featured insightful talks from other distinguished speakers, including Mr. Ashish Pareek, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at SIG.
Mr. Abhishek Kapoor, Executive Director of Regency, eloquently elaborated on diverse dimensions of management and its pivotal significance within an organizational framework. He fervently urged the students to embrace diligence and integrity, motivating them to confront challenges head-on and emerge as pioneers in the nation’s progress.
During his discourse, Mr. Sunil Vaish, Partner at Falcon Industry and former President of IIA-Kanpur Chapter, delved into multifaceted aspects of industry engagement, encompassing avenues for skill-oriented training, concise-term projects, and eventual recruitment for professional roles. He extensively covered the expanse and commendable attributes of nascent startups, encouraging students to conceive innovative ideas as a stepping stone to success in their careers. He also proactively nudged the students to transcend conventional notions of exclusively seeking academic positions and instead explore opportunities across various domains. In concluding his address, Mr. Vaish highlighted the challenges that recent graduates often encounter when seeking employment within the industry, citing their narrow and specific prerequisites.
Stepping into the subsequent segment, Dr. Sarbani Bhatia, Senior Vice President of IT at Jagran Prakashan Ltd., assumed the reins. With a resolute demeanor and fervent enthusiasm, she stood as the shining embodiment of women spearheading the corporate domain. Her audacious disposition and willingness to embrace risks served as formidable catalysts in her journey toward triumph. Drawing from her personal encounters, she championed the value of ongoing education, underscoring its significance in staying attuned to the dynamic corporate landscape.
Following this, Mr. Ashish Pareek, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at SIG, addressed the audience. He put the emphasis on developing strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey ideas and opinions, along with well-focused professional networking to build relationships with colleagues and superiors so as to gain valuable insights and opportunities for growth. He suggested being adaptable, open to new ideas and changes, and willing to earn from the experiences, along with effectively managing time and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and deliver quality work.
Concluding the event, Mr. Devendra Jaiswal, Associate Professor of the Institute, explained the curriculum and evaluation to all the students in detail. Every faculty member from the department took the opportunity to present themselves to the students, shedding light on the diverse management subjects they delve into while conducting research within their respective domains. After this, Professor and Dr. Shekhar Trivedi expressed their gratitude to all the faculty, staff, and students through a vote of thanks, followed by the rendition of the national anthem. The proceedings culminated with an official luncheon.
