BLOOD DONATION CAMP AT GHS-IMR-2014

On Wednesday, 3rd December, 2014 Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management & Research organised a blood donation camp in association with HDFC Bank and Rotary Club, Kanpur North in the institute campus. The Inaugural function started at 9:00AM. The camp saw great enthusiasm, not only among the students but outsiders as well a large number of people flocked in to make the event successful. The ceremony was flagged off by Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi. Director, GGHS-IMR, Kanpur, Sh. Sajjad Hasan Rizvi, Sr. Manager, HDFC Bank and Sh. Ajay Dixit , President, Rotary Club , Kanpur North. The Programme was convened by Dr. Sunil Shukla. Seventy Seven people donated blood to the Blood Bank of GSVM College, Kanpur in the camp. All Faculty members and staff helped in to make the event a grand success.

INTERNATIONAL STUDY-CUM-INDUSTRIAL TOUR TO THE UAE- 2018

PGDM students of batch 2017-19 of GHS-IMR experienced a 12 days Study-cum-Industrial Tour to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 21st, 2018 to November 1st, 2018. The Westford Education Group (UK/UAE) hosted the cohort of 56 students and 2 faculties from GHS-IMR in the 12 days long International tour. The said tour was coordinated by Dr. Shekhar Trivedi and Dr. Bhagwan Jagwani (Professors at GHS-IMR). They were later joined by Director, GHS-IMR, Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi. The tour included visits to Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

GHS-IMR has been conducting international tours to various places so that students not only get an international exposure but also understand the historical, cultural, social, geo-political and economic aspects of these regions vis-à-vis world trade.

The UAE tour was an ideal blend of sessions conducted by eminent faculty experts at the Westford University campus, Expert lectures by industry leaders, Industrial and Leisure Visits and Placement Drives. Students were able to experience the rich campus life and also got an exclusive opportunity to interact with faculties and students of different nationalities.

The Expert lectures and interactive sessions were conducted by trainers with Academic and Industry expertise. The series had sessions on topics like ‘Creativity in the workplace’, ‘Strategic Management and Leadership’, ‘Communicating to win’, Finance Management’, ‘21st Century Leadership’, etc. apart from Management Role play sessions and Experiential learning workshops. Students also got a chance to interact with Mr. Omar Yaghmour, the COO and Co-founder of Fetchr, an innovative technology driven Courier Service Company based in Dubai that is transforming the traditional way of sending and receiving packages. Mr. Omar explained how his company is disrupting courier companies by eliminating the need for a physical address which does not exist in emerging markets. His company solves the unpredictability of package delivery in the UAE and Middle East because of the absence of a formal street address system. The company uses the GPS for location based pickup and delivery with their patented apps. He also motivated students to adopt the entrepreneurial path and follow their passion.

The highlight of the tour was an international certification programme in ‘Strategic Management and Leadership’ from Pearson, UK. All the 56 students successfully completed the certification programme. The objective of this programme was achieving professional excellence through lifelong learning. The certification programme commenced on October 22nd, 2018 and concluded on October 31st, 2018. All 56 students were awarded certificates during the certification award ceremony in the presence of Westford officials, Director and accompanying Faculties of GHS-IMR. For their outstanding performances, 10 students also received merit certificates apart from the programme completion certificates.

Apart from this, students got the opportunity to visit companies like PepsiCo and Delta Printing Press in Dubai. During the visit to PepsiCo, students learnt the process of manufacturing and packaging of Foods and Beverages and how the pull market is controlled. Delta Printing Press, the flagship arm of the Delta Group, is a FOGRA certified multi-award winning enterprise that provides a wide spectrum of printing and allied services and is headquartered in Dubai. Students enriched their knowledge by observing the processes followed in an automated printing press. Students also made a visit to the Sustainable City, the first net Zero energy development in the emirate of Dubai. The development includes 500 villas, 89 apartments and other outlets for food and beverage, retail, healthcare facilities and a nursery.

Students also made a visit to Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, the world’s most sustainable eco-city. Through smart investments, Masdar City is successfully pioneering a “greenprint” for how cities can accommodate rapid urbanization and dramatically reduce energy, water and waste. The city combines ancient Arabic architectural techniques with modern technology. Students observed how the city uses clean energy generated on site from roof-top solar technology, which is also one of the largest photovoltaic installations in the Middle East.

Culture brings great understanding of the life and customs of geography. The students also had the opportunity to have an enrapturing and sublime experience in the leisure visits to Desert Safari, Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach (Dubai); London Souq, Gold Souq, Majaz Water Front, Qasba (Sharjah), and Sheikh Zayad Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

During the said tour, interested students also got an opportunity to seek international placement opportunities in the UAE through recruitment drives conducted by Fujairah Holdings and Westford Education Group. Two students were successful to be offered employment opportunity by the Westford Education Group in Sharjah.

Students also witnessed an International Book Fair on October 31st, 2018 organized in Sharjah.

Quoting one of the students on her feedback after the international tour – “This tour has given me global exposure on various fronts. I stand benefited at the end of this tour with this elaborate exposure and an international certification too! I will relish this experience forever in my life. “

Overall, the international study-cum-industrial tour was an experiential learning and allowed students to explore new avenues, territories, cultures and people.

GHS-IMR INTERNATIONAL STUDY TOUR TO CHINA-2016

The world is growing in its demand for global employees, and one of the best ways to achieve this is through travel and exploration. Participation in an international study tour enables students to build their personal and social competence and inter-cultural understanding, including language skills. With this objective in mind, GHS-IMR has been providing opportunities to its students to gain international exposure through foreign educational and industrial trips. This year, students of PGDM Year 1 (Batch 2015-17) experienced a 10 days study tour to China from February 28, 2016 to March 8, 2016.  Dr. Bhagwan Jagwani, Professor (Finance) and Placement Chair, accompanied the students during the tour.

The international tour was split up in two parts. The first part witnessed a 6 days visit to Shanghai, the largest Chinese city by population and a global financial center. The second part of the tour involved a 3 days visit to Beijing, the capital city of China.

During the tour to Shanghai, students got an opportunity to visit the factories of reputed organizations like Shanghai Electric Company, Bao Steel, Lenovo, Volkswagen and Coca Cola. On one hand, students understood the manufacturing process of turbines at Shanghai Electric Company and on the other hand, they witnessed the assembly line process at Bao Steel, Lenovo and Volkswagen. Students also enriched their knowledge by visiting the factory of Coca Cola and the showroom of IKEA, the Swedish furniture giant. Many students cleared their doubts by raising questions to the company representatives.

Students also visited the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center and the Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC). The exhibition center displays a large scale model of the entirety of urban Shanghai, showing existing buildings and approved future buildings. The SWFC, on the other hand, is a mixed-use skyscraper lauded for its design and consists of offices, hotels, conference rooms, observation decks, and ground-floor shopping malls. Students visited the 100th floor of the SWFC (474 metres) and enjoyed a full view of the colourful night of Shanghai. Students also enjoyed a ride aboard the Magnetic Levitation (Maglev) Train of China and enjoyed travelling at a speed of 431 Kms per hour (or 268 miles per hour) during the ride. Not only this, students were also enthralled by experiencing a ride aboard the Shanghai Huangpu River Cruise. While cruising on the river in the night, students experienced its silence and beauty under the moonlight and the glittery neon lights on its banks. Students enjoyed shopping at outlets like the AP Plaza, Taobao Market and the Nanjing Street.

Talking of cuisine, the group enjoyed the best of Indian food served at restaurants like the Indian Kitchen, Tandoor, G Water front and Kebabs on the Grille. Stay hospitality was extended by the Days Hotel Shanghai Fortune, a 4-star property.

Seizing the opportunity, Dr. Bhagwan Jagwani visited the Shanghai Mandarin Garden Language and Culture School, Shanghai, to meet Ms. Diana, Global Alliance Program Director and Ms. Nancy, Manager of Business Department. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss about sourcing a visiting faculty to GHS-IMR for teaching Mandarin to management students and, in turn, to increase their employability in the international job market. The scope of the prospective academic alliance also includes setting up of a Mandarin teaching center at GHS-IMR in the imminent future, under the guidance of the Shanghai Mandarin Garden Language and Culture School, Shanghai.

The group departed from Shanghai to Beijing by enjoying the ride of a bullet train traversing at a speed of around 300 Kms per hour. Visit to Beijing encompassed a journey through the rich cultural heritage of China. Places visited include the Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Palace of Heaven, Summer Palace, Pearl factory, Jade center, Olympic City (Bird’s Nest Stadium and Water Cube) and the Great Wall of China (juyong pass), one of the greatest wonders of the world.

In Beijing, students enjoyed sumptuous Indian cuisine served at restaurants like the Ganges, Tandoor, etc. One of the menu items also included delicious Indian masala ginger tea. Chinese cuisine was also enjoyed by the group during the tour. Stay hospitality in Beijing was extended by the Holiday Inn Chang An West, a 4-star property.

 

Quoting one of the students on her feedback after the international tour – “You’re more about others than you, when you come back home … You’re more of a leader because of the skills you gain from the experience.” Overall, the international tour was an experiential learning and allowed students to explore new territories, cultures and people.

INTERNATIONAL STUDY TOUR TO CHINA – 2017

With this objective in mind, GHS-IMR has been providing opportunities to its students to gain international exposure through foreign educational and industrial trips.

Students of PGDM second Year (Batch 2016-18) went to an 8 days study tour to China from August 06, 2017 to August 13, 2017. The International Study tour to China has been coordinated by Dr. Kunwar Milind Singh, Associate Professor at GHS-IMR. The international tour include visit to two cities of China comprising the financial capital city of Shanghai and capital city of Beijing. The first leg of the study cum industrial visit includes a 4 days visit to Shanghai, the largest Chinese city by population and a global financial centre. The second part of the tour involved a 3 days visit to Beijing, the capital city of China.

During the study tour to Shanghai, students got an opportunity to visit the Global MNCs like SAIC-General Motors and Coca Cola along with Chinese MNCs like SIM Technologies, Bright Dairy & Foods Co. and SANY Heavy Machinery Co. The first day of Industrial visit in Shanghai started with visit to Bright Foods (Group) Co. Ltd. The Group specialises in modern agriculture, food processing, production and distribution with an annual sales of 76 Billion RMB. The day ended with visit to SAIC-GM. Shanghai GM is one of the most advanced automotive JV established by GM with Shanghai Automotive Industry (SAIC).

The second day of industry visit started with visit to Sany Heavy Machinery Co in Shanghai. The company specialises in R & D, manufacturing and sales of Excavators. The capacity of the 2 manufacturing bases based in China is 80000 units per year and ranks first in the world. In the post lunch session students also visited Coca Cola plant at Shanghai. Students also witnessed the corporate journey of Coca cola in China and participated in a quiz competition in which Mr. Ansul Jain and Mr. Samrat Akash Shukla won the prices.

On the third day, students visited SIM Technology Group Limited, listed in Hong Kong Stock exchange. SIM Technology has number of subsidiary and they are the leading mobile handset and wireless communication developers in China. SIM Technology is awarded as Top 50 global emerging market enterprises by Boston Consulting Groups.  Students also visited showroom of IKEA in Beijing, the Swedish furniture giant.

In Shanghai Students also visited Mandarin Garden known for teaching Chinese language as foreign language and Chinese culture. At the institute Students attended a session where students learned the basics of Mandarin, the Chinese language.

An interactive knowledge sharing session of students with Indian Diaspora has been arranged during the Study Tour at Shanghai. All these speakers were well established in China (Shanghai) and are considered as Global thought leaders. Ms. Michelle Wang, Marketing Director, Deal Globe , Shanghai , Beijing and London, Mr. Sanjay Kulkarni ,Business Controller , Finance , Alfa Laval Technologies Limited, Shanghai, Mr. Sumeet Chander Country Head , Evalueserve ,China , Mr. Phani Kiran, Chief Executive, ICICI Bank Limited -Shanghai Branch, China and Mr. Ravi Shankar Bose, Director, Fugumobile were the speakers who spoke on different aspect of Chinese economy, different sectors and industries of Chinese economy and answered the students query. PGDM Students Vanshika Ramani, Sanya Gandhi, Shubhangi Agarwal and Sakshi Gupta coordinated the session. Dr. (Prof.) Rakesh Premi, Director, GHS-IMR has given the vote of thanks.

One of the student quoted “It was a great experience being the part of this International Tour. We got so much of knowledge, experience and skills by visiting many renowned manufacturing plants and MNCs in China”.

INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO DUBAI, UAE 2019

PGDM students of batch 2018-20 of GHS-IMR went for a 6 days International Industrial Tour to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 18th, 2019 to September 24th, 2019. On 18th September, late in the evening a group of 43 students from GHS-IMR landed in Dubai, UAE, along with their faculty coordinator Prof. Devendra Jaiswal.

The aim of this international visit was not only to see the industries of UAE, but also to understand and appreciate the culture of the nation-UAE. Such an understanding of a nation which includes historical, cultural, social, geo-political and economic aspects, gives a fillip to international business acumen of a manager.  This trip extracted the same by including the visit to industries like Unique Group of Industries, which is the world’s third largest marine projects company providing engineering expertise, sales and rental equipment and the latest technology for the marine, diving, pipeline and subsea market sectors, having presence in more than 15 locations throughout the globe. Certified for ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and fifteen other internationally recognized certification. The second industry was Emmar Warehouse, which provided warehousing services to the Emmar industry which is responsible for 65% of real estate in UAE including the Burj Khalifa, world’s tallest structure and Dubai Mall, world’s largest mall.

The students were exposed to the Emirati culture as they visited their museum, the Souks (the local market), the old and new Dubai, the desert safari, and the dhow (local merchant boat) cruise. This culminated into a convergence of world culture at the world renounced Atlantis, where the students eased themselves at the aqua venture park which hosted not only the Emiratis and Indians but host of people from all nations every day.

On the first day of the tour i.e. 19th September, 2019 students along with the faculty visited Unique Solutions Group, a renowned industry which deals in marine and sub-marine equipments. Students also had the experience of seeing various deep sea diving equipments and processes. In the evening, students went for Dhow Cruise which was a boat ride

On the second day, Students went for Dubai City tour comprising Dubai Mosque, Meena Bazaar, Dubai Museum, Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach, Palm Atlantis which drove students from the streets of Old Dubai to the skyscrapers of Modern Dubai. After their lunch at Lal Quila, Students moved towards the world’s tallest architecture Burj Khailfa and the world’s largest mall Dubai Mall. The day ended with an Alumni meet where the alumni working in Dubai had come together to have dinner with the students and discuss the role which students can play in the international business enhancement and seeking newer opportunities.

Third day of the tour had another industry visit to Emmar Warehouse, giving students an experience about how much importance knowledge of operations management has in their career. In the evening, an adventurous ride in the desert safari excited the students where they saw a different aspect of Emirati culture – their folk-daces, viz. Arabic Folk dance -belly dance, Emirati folk dance Al Ayala or Iyala dance and their traditional Tanaura dance at the dance show and tasted delicious local food.

On the fourth day, the group went to Aqua venture Water Park and The Lost Chambers Aquarium in the Palm Atlantis and had a day full of fun and enjoyment. The students visited the underwater restaurant where one could observe the deep-sea animals and aquatic life.

Overall, the international Industrial tour was experiential learning, which allowed students to explore new avenues, new limits (their own), new territories, and, of course new culture and people.

ANNUAL BUDGET PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION – 2021

Keeping in mind the aim of creating awareness and empowering the students to decode the Annual Budget 2021-22 and analyze the impact of the Budget on the Indian Economy and industry, the Annual Budget Presentation and discussion-2021 was organized at GHS-IMR on February 06, 2021.

PGP1 student, Shivangi Mor welcome the audience and gave his opening remarks on major highlight of Annual Budget, 2021.

In his welcome speech Dr. Prof. Rahul Goyal, Director, GHS-IMR highlighted how students can decode the Annual Budget and the importance of a budget for the economy and industry. He also highlighted the importance of insights from Budget is equally or more important than budget numbers. He also emphasized the importance of verbal and nonverbal communication during presentations and ways to present oneself in the best possible manner.

The session on annual budget presentation saw groups of students of GHS-IMR presenting their views and analysis on the major macroeconomic indicators and different sectors of the Indian economy and provisions and policy made in Annual Budget 2021-22. The student’s presentations have also been evaluated onset of selected criteria. Students faced a volley of questions from faculties and students.

The day’s proceeding came to an end by the summarization session by Dr. Kunwar Milind Singh, Associate Professor and Convener of the Program, where he summed up the discussion, views and analysis of the day, gave his inputs on student’s presentation and also applauded the efforts of the students.

GUEST SESSION ON “DECODING INDIA’S ANNUAL BUDGET -2021”

An online Guest session on “Decoding India’s Annual Budget -2021” has been organized by Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management & Research on Thursday, 11th February, 2021 at the campus. The aim of the session was to spread knowledge about different facets of India’s Annual Budget, 2021-22 and to get insights on impact of annual budget on different sectors of India’s economy and Industry. The session was delivered by esteemed expert Dr. Lokanandha Reddy Irala, Dr. Lokanandha Reddy has a accountAssociate Professor, Finance, Department of Management Studies, University of Hyderabad. He is an expert in the area of Financial Modelling, Financial Analytics, Spreadsheet Modelling, Measurement in Research and Case Method. He not only analyzed the 6 pillars highlighted in the Budget namely Health and wellbeing, Physical and Financial capital and Infrastructure, Inclusive Development for Aspirational India, Reinvigorating Human Capital, Innovation and R&D and Minimum government, Maximum governance but also shared insights about Government Fiscal situation by critically analyzing its different components. The insightful session was followed by volley of questions from the students and faculty. The session was coordinated by Dr. Kunwar Milind Singh, Associate Professor, Economics & IB at the Institute.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO GOLDIEE PLANT

GHS- IMR organized a factory visit for Batch (2020-2022)on 11th February. 2020 and to Goldiee Group’s Noodles Plant at Mandhana. Goldiee Noodles Plant is a part of Goldiee Group’s diversification into the processed food business. “One-One” noodles’ brand was launched by Goldiee Group in the year 2014. The main idea of the factory visit to the Goldiee One-One noodles plant was to see the best of Quality Product, Hygiene & Cleanliness practices followed by the company. Goldiee Noodles Plant is producing noodles with the help of imported state of the art machinery and certain part of the process is managed by the laborer. A remarkable area is women’s employment at the factory from the adjoining rural areas. Through this initiative, the company tries to encourage women empowerment programs. The factory visit gave the students an opportunity to see the various processes in Goldiee Noodles Plant.

Mr. Manu Rastogi (Company HR) & the other staff members provided helpful information. It’s unbelievable to see some good practices taking place in a factory which is situated in Kanpur. The factory uses the latest technology.

The process which is followed by Goldiee contains the following steps:-

Mixture Chamber->Aging Machine- >Steaming Chamber- >Cooling process- >Cutting & Folding- >Fryer ->Cooling Chamber- >Metal Detector & C.P.P. Checker->Seasoning ->Packaging.

This process was explained by Mr. Shriram, Plant Head, Mr Amit Bajpai, Quality Manager, and their colleagues. The best thing about the Goldiee Noodles Plant is that each and every worker has proper knowledge about the plant. After the visit, a documentary about the company’s vision and the mission was shown along with their founder’s story. It showed the background of Goldiee Group and how the business evolved. In the end, Certificates and goody bags were provided to the students by the Goldiee officials, and on behalf of the Institute Dr Shekhar Trivedi extended the hearty vote of thanks.

“BASANT PANCHAMI POOJA”

Basant Panchami a day remembered for celebrating birthday of Mother Goddesss Saraswati and also Celebrated on the fifth day of the Magh month. Dressed up in yellow, and signifying happiness and optimism the faculty, staff and students of Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management and Research celebrated this auspicious day on 16th February 2021.

Basant Panchami is most famous festival for the Goddess of Learning, Knowledge and Fine arts.  Seeing the shade of Ritual spring, the root conscious is the communication of new life in everyone.

Saraswati is the Goddess of wisdom. She embodies the different facets of learning such as the sciences, arts, crafts and skills.  She is said to be calm and collected. It is believed that without Saraswati the world would be shrouded in ignorance, as she is the one who represents enlightenment.  Celebration at the institute started with Poojan, Havan and followed by Prasad distribution. It was very joyful experience mixed with colours of beautiful expressions from every member of College.

A PDP SESSION ON “NEW VERSION OF YOU 2.0”

A PDP session “New version of you 2.0” has been organized at the institute on Monday, February 15, 2021. The session has been taken by a Master expert of the area – Mr.  Anant Agrawal. He is a professional with more than 20 years of experience in the field of Training, Operations, Process Management, and Coaching and is the Founder and Director of Skill Oxide IT Pvt. Ltd. The session was attended by both PGP1 and PGP2 students along with Director and faculty. Mr. Anant started the session by highlighting the importance of ‘Quality of thought’ and how students can start the day by being Grateful, Thankful, and blessed.  He went on to talk about how ‘New version of You 2.0’, the theme of the session can be achieved with a series of steps. The session went through a number of small exercises done by the students to understand the nuances of motivational concepts and one can continuously improve oneself. The session went lively and interactive throughout. The insightful session was followed by a volley of questions from the students and faculties.  The session was coordinated by Dr. Kunwar Milind Singh, Associate Professor, Economics & IB at the Institute. Dr. Shekhar Trivedi, Professor, Marketing was also present during the session.
