A training programme on dining etiquette was organised on 15th March 2022 at Hotel Royal Cliff. The Head of the Department, Mr. Saurabh, said: “Dining etiquette rules apply before one takes a seat until one leaves the table. Before one sits down and after they leave the table, there are standards for proper dining behavior. Food ordering and eating are both forms of art. Students can use these fundamental manners in their daily lives. “Students of this generation are exemplars of the development of the future. If properly trained, they can serve as development’s agents. These workshops expose aspiring researchers and learners to real-world situations. Everyone is perceptive. This is especially valid for interactions in the workplace. Aside from excellent work performance, having proper dining manners contributes to building your credibility and reputation. Additionally, it facilitates your acceptance into the business community. Additionally, if you stop to think about it, it promotes self-assurance. You should include it in your list of professional skills.

Niche- the Marketing club of GHS IMR hosted a Workshop on Canva & Corel draw under the guidance of Dr. (Prof.) Shekhar Trivedi. The aim of the workshop was to hone the designing skills of the students for their careers in content marketing Aditi Gupta and Satya Baranwal took the initiative for Canva where they taught us how to design a poster using different elements and templates in Canva. They selected a basic template in which they used different elements (lines&shapes, Graphics & photos) and several fonts which made the poster look very attractive. They taught us how to embed a hyperlink in the poster so that a person can be redirected to a Website. The Second half of the workshop was taken over by Dr. (Prof.) Shekhar Trivedi sir on Corel draw where he taught us how to design a logo using Corel draw. He designed an incredible logo of British Petroleum using the POLYGON TOOL and BASIC SHAPES in the Corel draw. The workshop proved to be very beneficial & fruitful for the students and took a very keen interest to enhance their designing skills.

GHS-IMR organized Brandcraft, a Marketing summit wherein the experts from different industries, provided an insight into marketing& branding strategies. The 5th Brandcraft summit commenced on 19th Feb 2022 & 26th Feb 2022 with exuberant spirit & enthusiasm. This time it focused on different types of marketing to nurture & develop the brands from different industries, giving a competitive advantage to the firms with the theme of “Agile marketing in VUCA world”. Keeping in view the ongoing Covid precautions, the summit was conducted on the online platform.

The Day -1 (19th Feb 2022) of BrandCraft was embarked by Mr. Gaurav Jain, Senior General Manager, Business Head, Africa Cluster , Zydus Group , Ahmadabad who gave students an insight of the pharmaceutical Industry in India & in overseas describing his diverse roles from commercial operations to executive leadership along with the reliability of Parma industry on operational structure indicators that impact their success and willingness to compete with new marketing & sales system for the brands to sustain in future.

The next session was enlightened by the knowledge of Mr. Vishal Gautam, Senior Manager Sales Defense Business North and East for Bacardi India Pvt. Ltd on liquor marketing. He elaborated the students regarding the supply chain and their root to liquor market industry, along with the sale structure of the company. The students even got to know the insights of challenging market space and how companies and brands are responding to these challenges in the liquor market.

The concluding session on 19th Feb 2022 was conducted by Dr. Sumit Raghunath, GM Ad Sales, Dainik Jagran I next, The House of Jagran Prakashan Ltd. He deliberated on the varied modes of media, and differentiated between journalism & reporting in print, outdoor, as well as in audiovisual media. He drew a vivid picture for a better understanding of students in the evolution of the media industry during the VUCA time.

The opening session on Day 2 of Brandcraft (26th Feb 2022) was lead by Mr. Khalid Ahmed, Chief Brand Manager –MAK Lubricants, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., who introduced us to “BANI” for business agility along with the importance of customer & trend research to create strategies that changes the perception of the brand with the differentiation of products in rural & urban market.

The next session on 26th Feb was conducted by Mr. Rajesh Srivastava, Head, Marketing Communications, Nissan Motors, India.He deliberated on an entirely new concept & thoroughly explained the students regarding badgering, which means distinguishing according to the product name without making any change in the product. He discussed the cases of FORD Endeavour/Everest, TATA Tiago/Zippy Car and Kuga. He also explained the students about the optimized media planning for a starry eyed progress, ahead with an insight of market capture for electric vehicle.

The third session started with Mr. Shashank Tripathi, Head of Leasing, Z Square Mall. He explained the students about the leisure requirements along with zoning, where retail formats are constantly reinvented & the brand pool is enhanced to ensure sales, attracting new customers with a huge variety of products. He also threw light on the importance of Family entertainment centers generating huge revenue & discussed the strategies for sustaining a profitable business even during the times of pandemic.

In the next session Mr. Kamal Raza, a core hospitality professional, having a diverse experience of 24 years in QSR and currently associated with Intercontinental Hotel Group gave insights to the students in the field of hospitality Segments like FIT (free individual traveler), Leisure travel & MICE segment. He also explained the students about hotel working mix and Package designing according to the customer requirement giving major emphasis on AP packages, in house and Outhouse marketing for a better growth & development of the hospitality business.

During the session, students barraged the speakers with their queries which were well answered by them making the session interactive & evolving with the generation of new thought process in them.

All the esteemed speakers were awarded with the of Certificate of Appreciation & Vote of Thanks by Dr. Shekhar Trivedi, Convener, BrandCraft for widening the knowledge of the audience in the field of marketing & enhancing the understanding of business dynamics of students in an effective manner through their incredible knowledge, invaluable wisdom & experiences shared during the sessions.

“Masquerade 2023”- Farewell Party Batch 2021-23

The Masquerade Farewell Party 2023 was organised by the Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management and Research for Batch 2021-23 on 29th April 2023.  As the PGDM Batch of 2022-24 prepares to bid farewell for their seniors, it is a time of mixed emotions. On one hand, there is excitement about the new opportunities that await each individual in their personal and professional lives. On the other hand, there is a sadness about leaving behind the friends, faculty, and staff who have become an integral part of their lives over the past two years.

The ceremony began with the inauguration address by Prof. (Dr.) Rahul Goyal (Director of GHS-IMR) and the lighting of a candle in honor of Saraswati. He encouraged students by saying that as we look back on the journey that brought us here, we realize how far we have come. From the nervous first days of orientation to the confident and capable undergraduates, we are today, we have grown and evolved in ways that we could not have imagined.

Following the farewell introduction, Himanshi Bhatia and Vaibhav Maheshwari perform on the programme. For the senior’s students’ farewell, junior students put on amazing musical performances, singing, dancing, and other performances. On stage, senior students performed beautifully. Talent round, games, and other competitions were held along the way to choosing Ms. and Mr. Evening 2023. Judging the winners was the most challenge due to the pupils’ outstanding performances. The most anticipated titles for the tournament were revealed towards its conclusion, Mr. and Ms. Evening was Nakul Chaudhary and Stuti Garg, and Mr. and Ms. Farewell were Ritik Nigam and Darakshan respectively. Prizes were given out to the winners by Prof. (Dr.) Rahul Goyal, Prof. Anmol Chopra, and other faculty members. Finally, Prof. (Dr.) Rahul Goyal gave a heartfelt vote of thanks, congratulated the winners, and thanked all the students who took part in the competition and served as volunteers. He likewise urged them to excel in their summer internships. Following that, everyone was welcome to the dinner and dance floor.

Mr. Arvind Singh is an alumnus of HBTU Kanpur from B Tech Civil 1992 Batch, andIndian Engineering Service 1995 Batch. He has worked in Department of Telecommunication, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation in the various cities across India such as Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Mehsana, Amritsar, Delhi, Lucknow, and Kanpur. He is known for onsite immediate departmental decision making. Under his profound leadership, there are numerous achievements such as completion of 19 Km out of 23of Lucknow Metro, 9 Km of Kanpur Metro, getting Limca Award for fastest construction of CCS Airport underground station, Platinum certification by IGBC to all the stations of Lucknow Metro and Kanpur Metro. Currently remaining work of Kanpur Metro is in progress under his leadership.

Mr. Singh started the session with a brief introduction of Kanpur Metro, and highlighted the  challenges faced byKanpurMetro Project. He laid down the foundation to understand technical aspects of metro project in comprehensive way using real time videos, photographs, and data.He discussed the prominent factors affecting project duration time such as site selection, design approach, use of technology, selection of construction methodology. He also discussed importance of decision making about 24 hour activities and night shift activities, labour welfare, public support as the strategies to reduce project duration andfinishing the primary section of Kanpur Metro Project before time. He elaborated how crisis emerged due to pandemic was converted into opportunity to reduce the project completion time up to the  appreciable extent.  Participants discussed their queries which were satisfactorily resolved.  The session was full of valuable insights and practical learning to enrich the management skills.

An Expert Session onthe topic “Indian Economy in the purview of GST” on 1stApril 2023, by Mr. Piyush Shukla, Additional Commissioner, GST, Kanpur

Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management and Research, organized An Expert session on the topic “Indian Economy in the purview of GST” on 1stApril 2023, by Mr. Piyush Shukla, Additional Commissioner, GST, Kanpur.

Mr. Piyush Shukla is an IRS officer from 2010 batch, and presently he is Additional Commissioner, GST, Kanpur. He is B. Tech.  in Civil Engineering from HBTU, Kanpur. He has been felicitated with Young Achiever Award by the Alumni Association of HBTU Kanpur in the year 2020. He also secured Rank 20 in the Indian Engineering Services Examination, in 2007 and joined the Indian Railways, and was posted in Howrah Division where he constructed bridges and laid down several kilometers of railway lines for connecting remote places of West Bengal. After joining the Indian Revenue Services [Indirect Taxes & Customs] in the year 2010 and has worked in various capacities at Allahabad, Mumbai & Kanpur.His contribution to rolling out of the new tax regime i.e. GST in Mumbai Zone, the financial capital of the nation by way of migration of taxpayers and their handholding was appreciated. During his posting at Foreign Post Office, Mumbai he carried out the computerization of an age-old manual process of assessment of postal imports. He has contributed to the field of investigation & prosecution in Customs as well as GST and curbed tax evasion practices in his jurisdiction. In addition to his technical and administrative acumen, He is also the author to a couple of books in Hindi namely “Agyaat Chitwan” a poetry compilation, and “The Lockdown Stories” a novel on the historical lockdown due to Covid-19.

Mr. Shukla started the session with an introduction of GST as a game changer and one tax for manufacturing, trading, and services. He highlighted the benefits of GST in the form of decrease in inflation, ease of doing business, decrease in black transactions, protection of domestic industry etc.,  in contrast to the limitations of previously existing tax regimes such as the cascading effect of taxes, multiple registrations, different points of taxation, lack of uniformity. In the discussion of salient features, he shared crucial information about the coverage of GST, Central tax (CGST) and State tax (SGST), Union territory tax (UTGST), and IGST mechanism along with its advantages. He concluded his session with the thought that due to special features of GST such as one nation, one tax, one market, simplification, reach to the global market, technology-driven, and better compliance, GST can put a significant positive impact on the Indian economy. The session provided important insights for understanding the business and administration perspectives of GST and its impact on the Indian Economy. Students raised queries related to the practical implications of GST, which were elaborately discussed.

7th National HR Summit ‘HumanOurce- 2023’

Keeping its promise the HumanOurce was back in GHS-IMR campus this year as ‘HumanOurce-2023’. This year’s theme was Gen-Z through the lenses of HR professionals with the objectives to comprehend with the advancement in technology and the latest innovations on in order to boost up the corporate sector and national economy as a whole

The inaugural session began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by all the dignitaries. In his welcome speech, Dr. (Prof.) Rahul Goyal, Director (GHS-IMR), said that a proactive approach we could look into the future and drive benefits from there.  Time is a witness that organizations that could anticipate the prospect could only turn the table. In the current scenario for boosting the eagerly awaited industrial growth summit theme is very relevant and will give the needed directionality in shaping the HR Strategy for the organizations.

The program began with the Plenary Session-I by Mr. Jayant Walia, Senior Consultant (ONGC), CSR/CC Office Of Union Petroleum Minister. He  gave emphasis on the  growth &  development of the Indian economy showcasing the basic values  of discipline, stress management, commitment, and focus along with a well-balanced approach to adopting ethical principles to nurture the  success in the corporate world

The next panel discussion was taken forward by Dr. Naman K. Saxena, VP Corporate HR Goldie Group. He suggested that HR holds the key to success in overcoming major challenges faced by executives with the emphasis on a multi-generational, diverse workplace, with rapidly evolving technology HR has to make a transformational change.

Post such an interactive session, the discussion was taken over by Mr. Mohit Awasthi, Senior Manager HR & Admin, Kanpur Plasticpack Ltd. who shared his experiences in working in Pan India and utilizing the latest technology for the growth of the corporate. He also enlighted the audience with the transforming role of HRs in keeping in pace with the productive and efficient workforce fulfilling organizational goals.

Followed by this, Mr. Pallav Dar, Manager HR, Ganesh Ecosphere Ltd. addressed the audience with the key emphasis on motivating the students to achieve excellence in such a competitive GenZ world & emerge as successful HRs providing a rich human resources with efficient cognitive abilities & productivity to enhance the fame of the respective industries they desire to join ahead.

The post-lunch session started with the Panel Discussion by Mr. Anurag Saxena, VP marketing, Pandit’s. He focussed on learning effective methodologies that would assist in the transition from campus life to a corporate environment along with maintaining a professional demeanor and conduct that reflects positively not only on the individual personality but on the organization in a holistic manner.

The next session was taken over by Dr. Sarbani Bhatia, Senior VP, IT Jagran Prakashan Ltd. She was well determined, and enthusiastic and was a true example of women leading in the corporate sector. Her bold & risk-taking attitude was one of the driving forces for her emerging success in life. She shared her experiences and embraced a mindset of continuous learning to keep pace with the ever-changing corporate environment

Followed by this, Mr. PK Jain, Senior General Manager, RSPL, Welfare Foundation & Namaste India addressed the audience. He put the emphasis on developing strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey ideas and opinions along with well-focused professional networking – to build relationships with colleagues and superiors so as to gain valuable insights and opportunities for growth.

The next session was addressed by Mr. Sheshendra Bhadauria, Head HR, Superhouse Ltd.  He suggested  upon being adaptable, open to new ideas and changes, and be willing to learn from experiences along with effectively managing time  and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and deliver quality work

The concluding session was taken over by Mr. Arvind Singh, Project Director, UP Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. He emphasized on the latest technical implications in all the major emerging industries along with the more balanced & enthusiastic methodology to boost the Indian economy leading to more employment opportunities. He also discussed on how HR has witnessed a paradigm shift from maintaining compliance to building organizational capability.

It was an extreme pleasure for GHS-IMR to have the galaxy of intellects on this auspicious occasion of HR Summit 2023- Humanource.  We shall always be looking forward to such gatherings which not only ignited the young minds but also motivated the students to comprehend with the paths for emerging successful.

Annual Budget Presentation and Discussion 2023

The Annual Budget Presentation and Discussion-2023 were held at GHS-IMR on 22 February 2023, with the intention of raising awareness and equipping the students to understand the Annual Budget 2023–24 and assess how it will affect the Indian economy and industry.

In the presence of Dr. Rahul Goyal (Director GHS-IMR), Dr. Shekhar Trivedi, Mr. Devendra Jaisawal, Mrs. Anmol Chopra, etc., a spectacular occasion took place. CA Govind Maheshwari and Mr. Gopal Trivedi were the guests of honor and shared fascinating insights into the budget for 2023–24, enhancing the students’ wisdom.

CA Govind Maheshwari emphasized the value of a budget for the economy and industry as well as how students can understand the annual budget. He also emphasized that budget insights are just as crucial as budget data, if not more so. He also highlighted the value of both verbal and nonverbal communication when giving presentations and how to effectively promote oneself.

CA Govind Maheshwari provides an in-depth understanding of the budget, enabling students to make presentations on such. The Mahila Samman Bachat Patra, the Savings Program, the Seniors Citizen Savings Scheme, the Eklavya Model School for Tribal Students, the 157 Nursing College, and other programmes are also highlighted by him.

At the presentation of the annual budget, groups of GHS-IMR students gave their opinions and analyses on the key macroeconomic indicators, the various sectors of the Indian economy, and the provisions and policies included in the annual budget for 2023–2024. Several criteria have been used to evaluate the student presentations. Faculty members and students fired up a barrage of inquiries at the students.

Students of GHS-IMR like Harsh Jaisawal, Himanshi Bhatia, and Khushi Rajpal Akansha Chaurasia and others delivered a summary of the discussion, viewpoints, and analyses of the day, offered their opinions on the budget 2023–24 presentations, and praised their efforts to bring the day’s events to a close.

PPT Presentation Competition on “Implication of Union Budget 2023”

An inter-college presentation competition was held at STEP-HBTI on ‘Implications of the Union Budget 2023-2024’ on 21st Feb 2023. The jury at the event was CS Satyam Tiwari and Mrs. Anmol Chopra (GHS-IMR). Students of different colleges participated and gave presentations on different sectors/industries included in the Union Budget 2023. The first position was secured by Aditya Lohia (STEP-HBTI) and the second position was secured by Khushi Rajpal from GHS-IMR.
